Pick up from Nairobi then head north bound to Samburu game reserve.
This will take you through central the land of the most populous ethnic
group in Kenya, the Kikuyu. They are mixed entrepreneurs venturing in
business and farming. Evidence is the coffee and tea plantations on the
slopes of Mt. Kenya. Arrive at the Samburu in time for lunch. Evening
game drive, dinner and overnight at Samburu camp site..
Mid morning visit Samburu village. Here you learn a lot about these peoples
tradition, these include how they used to hunt before it was banned, herbal
medicines they make from the various specific plants, and also some of
the, social organizations like morans and elders. They will also teach
you how they go about their ritual rights like wedding ceremonies, initiation
and child rearing. Evening game drive, dinner and overnight at the camp.
After break fast further north across the hot plains of the frontier districts.
Major attraction feature here is the flat topped Mt Ol Lolokwe, hikers
favorite but dangerous because of many animals on the route. Arrive at
the Marsabit reserve. Plenty of animals to be seen here. This is a convergence
point for the northern ethnic groups, like the Rendile, Gabra and the
Borana. Dinner and over night at the camp.
After breakfast continue with rest of the safari heading to our next stop
at Karacha. The road cuts through dry shrubs, few settlements of the communities
that inhabit this arid region. The weather here is hot during the day
but cold at night but can change drastically. Dinner and over night at
our camp, Karacha.
Our last stretch to Turkana. This is the land of one of the smallest tribes
in Kenya the El Molo people. On your way you will see Mt Kulal from far.
Lake Turkana is the lifeline of the communities that live here. They rely
on fishing though the lake is infested with the killer crocodiles. The
largest population of crocodiles in east Africa knows the lake as the
home. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
This whole day spent in Turkana. After breakfast visit the El Molo village.
Learn how they survive around this lake. Turkana people also have a very
rich culture. Form their dressing code to craft, e.g. they have a small
piece of wood that they carry along whether on safari or out grazing cattle,
it acts as a headrest or a chair.
Start our way back to Nairobi, lunch on the way, with the first stop at
Maralal where we camp for dinner and over night.
After break fast we drive south bound for Nairobi with lunch enroute.
Expecting to get to Nairobi at the late evening.
